| Notes | The Committee of the Regions (CoR) is consulted by the European Commission, the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament for the drawing up legislative texts (directives, regulations, etc.) on areas affecting local and regional authorities. The CoR may also issue an opinion on its own initiative on the legislative projects of which its members believe they are of significant importance for the Regional and Local Authorities. The dossier is allocated to the relevant internal commission and a Member of the CoR is appointed as rapporteur. The rapporteur consults stakeholders, drafts the opinion, and presents it for discussion, amendment and adoption by the Members of the commission. After being adopted by the CoR commission, the draft opinion is discussed at the plenary session. Once it has been adopted by vote, the opinion is sent to all the European institutions and published in the Official Journal of the European Union. An inter-institutional follow-up is ensured.
