Population: Vital statistics

Vital statistics monitors and studies the data on births and deaths as the main factors of natural increase, on the basis of which the corresponding demographic indicators are being calculated. This field also includes statistics of marriages and divorces.
Vital statistics collect data on demographic characteristics: born (live births and stillborn) child, deceased person, the bride and groom (marriages) or the wife and husband (divorces).
In addition to demographic characteristics of the deceased person data on the cause of death are also collected.
Since 1998 the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia doesn’t dispose of vital statistics data for the AP Kosovo and Metohia, and therefore these data are not included in the coverage for the Republic of Serbia (total).
The methodology of vital statistics is consistent with the methodology applied in the Census 2002.
