| Notes | Commercial catch information recorded from a sampling programme for a subset of fishing activity. Records are made at species level (occasionally genus level). Species distribution records data are derived from ongoing projects with the marine fisheries section of AFBI including - commercial fishery sampling and research samples. Data is stored in databases developed and maintained by AFBI Biometrics division. Spatial information (degrees, decimal minutes) is held for fishing activity events. Species distribution cannot be directly determined at this resolution (degrees, decimal minutes) as species records are derived from fishing activities occurring at a lower resolution along a spatial path. Therefore, species records are attributed to the start & end spatial coordinates. Low resolution spatial (ICES rectangles) data are attributed to fish species recorded. Elements of the data relate directly to commercial activity, by members of the public, and therefore are commercially sensitive. Sumamry of the data are provided for compilation within European databases (e.g. DATRAS / FishFrame).
