| Notes | The results gathered were contributed by a number of cruises for this report.The main aims were to; i) Carry out plankton surveys to assess sole egg production in the Trevose Head spawning area. ii) Carry out a sole egg survey in the Bristol Channel. iii) Sample bass larvae and investigate spawning behaviour. iv) Carry out plankton survey in the Western English Channel and in the Shingle Bank to assess the distribution and abundance of edible crab larvae. v) Carry out a plankton survey using the 53cm High Speed Tow Net fitted with a guideline Conductivity Temperature Depth (CTD) monitoring system. vi) Determine the abundance of crab (Cancer pagarus) larvae in selected areas of the English Channel. vii) Take additional plankton samples in areas of high abundance of larvae to estimate haul to haul and spatial variability. viii) Study the vertical distribution of crab larvae using a Longhurst Hardy Plankton Recorder (LHPR) sampler.
