| Notes | <p>The London Energy and Greenhouse Gas Inventory (LEGGI) 2013 shows greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption for London. This is an interim version of the LEGGI 2013, which will be confirmed when final data on energy use is published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Transport for London, expected in 2016.</p>
<p>The LEGGI shows estimates of energy consumption and carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions from homes, workplaces and transport within the Greater London area. It is produced by the Greater London Authority on an annual basis to measure progress against the Mayor's Climate Change Mitigation and Energy Strategy. The LEGGI uses sub-regional energy (electricity, gas and other fuels) and CO2e data published by DECC for homes and workplaces, and data from the London Atmospheric Emissions Inventory (LAEI) for energy and CO2e data for transport.</p> <p>Interim results show that in 2013, London’s CO2e emissions were 40.19 million tonnes. This is an eleven percent reduction on 1990 levels, and a 20 percent reduction since the peak in 2000. This is despite an ever-increasing population and one of the coldest winters in recent history, which increased London’s gas use in 2013. London’s per capita emissions also fell by 28 percent on 1990 levels to 4.8 tonnes of CO2 in 2013.</p> |
