Notes
Gating Orders (soon to be replaced by Public Spaces Protection Orders), help reduce crime or antisocial behaviour occurring either on the path itself or resulting from its use. A Gating Order does not permanently stop up the public right of way but restricts the publics use either at certain times or at all times of the day and night. The power to create Gating Orders was provided by the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 which amended the Highways Act 1980. It enables the Council to make a Gating Order to restrict the use by the public of a relevant highway and may include the placing of gates at each end.
