| Notes | Environment & Business - Land and Water: Bathing Water Polygons dataset covering England and Wales. Bathing water polygons define an area for those bathing waters in England & Wales which qualify as sensitive areas (SA) under theUrbanWasteWaterTreatmentDirective (UWWT). Where a bathing water does not qualify as a SA the polygon defines an area to aid the work of the Environment Agency with permitting of discharges. The polygonsare not a definition of the extent of the bathing water under theBathingWaterDirectives 76/160/EEC or 2006/7/EC and should not be used for any definition of the bathing water area or extent. In the directives the bathing water name is listed, and is defined byits monitoring point (i.e. a single NGR).Thishas beenconfirmed by the EU Bathing Water Committee (Autumn 2010):The directive lays down clear criteria to locate the monitoring point (Art 3.3) which do not refer to any coastal length. This is a spatial dataset.
