Title | Atmospheric lead concentrations Glasgow 1980-2007
|
Notes | Lead is a toxic heavy metal pollutant that can be inhaled or ingested. Exposure to high levels of lead may result in severe damage to the nervous system and kidneys. Brain development may also be impaired, particularly in children, even at very low concentrations of lead. Additives in petrol have been the primary source of atmospheric lead and can enter the food chain through deposition onto crops and soil. Lead concentrations in air have been measured in order to monitor the UK's compliance with the EC Directive on lead in air. A range of trace elements, including lead, are monitored at three sites in Scotland: Motherwell, Glasgow and Eskdalemuir. The dataset presented her is an extract of data showing Atmospheric Lead concentrations measured in Glasgow from 1980-2007. The data shows annual average Atmospheric Lead concentrations (μg/m3). Data recorded over pollution years which run from 1 April to 31 March. [Dataset for Scotland](http://www.scotland.gov.uk/SESO/Resources/StatFiles/AQconcLead.xls). [Metadata and Methodology]( http://www.scotland.gov.uk/seso/SourceDetails.aspx?ID=7) The data capture rate in 2003 was low: Glasgow (46%). The [reliability of this data](http://www.scotland.gov.uk/seso/DatasetSearch.aspx?TID=7), is therefore questionable. Date Extracted 2014-06-26T13:00:00 |
