The European Union (EU) Emissions Trading Scheme was set up to achieve the European Union's contribution to the Kyoto Protocol to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12.5% by 2010. It is a system of buying and trading of allowances for greenhouse gas emissions. One allowance represents one tonne of carbon dioxide (CO2) or equivalent. The scheme affects operators of high-polluting industries such as production of metals and pulp and paper industries. The Annual CO2 emissions dataset contains data from those installations regulated under EU Emissions Trading Scheme. |
