Title | Ambient Sound Monitoring Network in Dublin City
|
Notes | Dublin City Council measures ambient sound quality throughout Dublin with a network of sound monitors. This datasets consists of spreadsheets taken from monitoring sites around Dublin City. The sound level meters store continuous 5 minute sound pressure levels, with information from the individual daily files then collated into a spreadsheet with separate worksheet for each month of the year 2010. The results of the sound level meter are given in Leq, which is the average sound level over the period of measurement and average levels for day, evening, night are also calculated. Lden is the 24-hr Leq calculated for an annual period, but with a 5 dB weighting for evening and a 10 dB weighting for night. Directive 2002/49/EC requires EU Member States to produce noise maps in 2007 using the Lden noise metric. There is currently a proposal to make the data available
real time to the European environment Agency to display on their public Eye On Earth website. The sound monitoring helps to validate the noise mapping grid dataset, which is available in the resarch zone. |
